Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) is among the world’s largest premium aluminium producers and the biggest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside oil and gas. It operates aluminium smelters in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, an alumina refinery in Abu Dhabi, and a bauxite mine and associated export facilities in the Republic of Guinea. It has led the country to become the fifth-largest aluminium producer in the world. Its homegrown technology enables EGA to be cost-competitive and environmentally responsible while meeting customer and societal needs. Operating one of the world's largest aluminium smelters in a cyclical and at times volatile industry where raw materials and freight costs can fluctuate by a factor of 2-4x, the site launched a 4IR transformation to increase cost competitiveness, agility and flexibility. In three years it implemented 80+ use cases, upskilled over 20% of its workforce, and used deep-learning computer vision and large language models to lift OEE by 12%, cut downtimes by 50% and reduce non-productive time by 18%.
