Suzhou, CN - Lighthouse award in Supply-Chain and Resilience
The site was the first internal extension of an established medical-device lighthouse, set up to roll out proven 4IR practices across a wider supply-chain network. A central innovation centre supplied the technology roadmap, IIoT infrastructure, process standards and training, which the site then adapted to its own orthopaedic-device operations.
Bridgewater, US - Lighthouse award in Productivity
The joint reconstruction market suffered from high inventory, fragmented case coordination and perioperative inefficiency, made worse by a shift in procedures from inpatient to outpatient settings. The site used open APIs, machine learning and personalised case coordination to digitally integrate hospitals and ambulatory surgery centres directly into its supply chain, redesigning customer experience and value-chain efficiency.
Cork, IE - Lighthouse award in Productivity
A strategically important orthopaedics site needed to expand capacity from existing assets while sustaining strict regulatory quality. A dedicated next-generation technology team was set up to scout, test and scale 4IR use cases — virtual reality, adaptive process control with in-line traceability, IoT-based OEE dashboards, a CNC digital twin, cobots and autonomous indoor vehicles, and large-scale additive manufacturing for implants. The reported aggregate impact is a 10% site cost improvement and roughly 5% machine utilisation gain.
