The yard builds large engineer-to-order ships, and demand for green vessels such as car carriers and LNG carriers surged faster than its planning could absorb. Each vessel carries more than a million unique parts, design and construction run in parallel, and less than 60% of the bill of materials is confirmed when annual plans are set, so siloed departments optimised locally while dry docks, cranes and berths became contested bottlenecks. The site rebuilt its core around a data-driven planning and execution engine, deploying more than 25 digital solutions that connect design changes to the shop floor: AI block-level scheduling that predicts missing BOM data, a continuous flow line for flat-block fabrication, vision-guided part sorting with just-in-time delivery, cost-aware steel nesting, and a digital twin that pre-assembles ships before any steel is lifted. Annual throughput rose 2.57 times, the dry-dock final-assembly cycle fell by 52%, and first-pass yield at final assembly climbed from 73% to 97.8%. Energy consumed per unit of output dropped by about 40%, more than 2,600 workers were retrained for AI-supported operations, and over 1,000 supply-chain partners were brought into the digital ecosystem.
