Hawiyah, SA - Lighthouse award in Productivity
The Hawiyah Gas and NGL Complex processes feed gas into sales gas, natural gas liquids and captured CO2 at the heart of a 3,850-km national network, and it faced rising demand from power and petrochemical customers driven by the Kingdom's growth targets and a programme to displace liquid fuels with cleaner gas, all under a mandate to unlock capacity from existing infrastructure rather than new capital. The site had been running its gas-treating, NGL-recovery and sales-gas units in isolation, with fragmented and slow decisions, manual asset monitoring, periodic corrosion inspections and methane surveys that took years to cover every point. It executed a digital strategy built around more than fifty 4IR use cases, a physics-informed network optimiser, a plant-wide agentic AI companion, machine-learning asset protection, corrosion soft-sensors and autonomous methane detection, while retraining its workforce to lead the change. Annual NGL volume rose 26% from 79 to 99.9 million barrels, conversion cost fell 65%, product quality improved 43%, equipment effectiveness climbed from 60.7% to 87.2%, and Scope 1 and 2 emissions intensity dropped 16%, with zero major safety incidents.
North Ghawar, SA - Lighthouse award in Productivity
A producing complex first commissioned in 1938, managing ageing assets dispersed over a 12,500 km² area, faced constraints in meeting rising supply commitments and net-zero ambitions. The site launched a 4IR strategy built on 65+ solutions — advanced analytics, AI-powered digital twins and a proprietary large-language model — to lift oil production by 8.44% while cutting Scope 1 and 2 emissions per Barrel of Oil Equivalent by 8.21%.
Yanbu, SA - Lighthouse award in Productivity
A 1970s-era refinery, facing financial losses and the need to transition to clean fuels, executed a five-year programme of AI, advanced analytics and industrial-metaverse use cases. On-spec clean-fuels production reached 99%, GHG emissions fell 23% and operational availability rose 17%, with site OEE up 14 percentage points.
